Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data Compare.Coffee (“we”, “us”) collects, why, and your rights over it. Compare.Coffee is an online coffee-bean comparison subscription service for UK consumers, operated by Concepcion Velasco Lopez, a sole trader trading as Compare.Coffee. What we collect and why

• Account details — your email and display name, handled through our authentication provider (Auth0) so you can sign in. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
• Subscription & billing — if you subscribe, payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number; we keep your Stripe customer/subscription identifiers and plan status to give you the right access. Legal basis: contract.
• Your content— saved searches, price/stock alerts, your coffee notebook (ratings & tasting notes), saved lists, community notes, and anything you send via the feedback form (including the email you provide). Legal basis: contract / legitimate interests.
• Usage — a count of your searches (to apply free/paid limits). For signed-out visitors this uses a bv_sidcookie stored only as a salted, one-way hash — we can’t identify you from it. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
• Analytics— privacy-friendly, cookieless aggregate analytics (Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights) to understand traffic and performance. No advertising or cross-site tracking.

Cookies

We use only essential cookies: your sign-in session and the bv_sidsearch-metering cookie. Our analytics are cookieless. Because we set no advertising or non-essential cookies, we don’t show a consent banner. You can clear cookies in your browser at any time (you may then need to sign in again).

Who we share data with (processors)

We use trusted providers that process data on our behalf, only to run the service:

• Auth0 — authentication / sign-in.
• Stripe — subscription payments.
• Supabase — database & file storage (your account + content).
• Resend — transactional email (alerts, replies to your messages).
• Vercel — hosting & privacy-friendly analytics.
• Meilisearch — powering search.

We do not sell your personal data.

Coffee catalogue data

Our catalogue is aggregated from publicly available roaster and retailer websites for comparison. Roaster names, logos and product details belong to their owners. We aim for accuracy but listings and prices are best-effort and may be out of date — always confirm on the seller’s site.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal data, and object to certain processing. You can correct catalogue details via the on-site correction form, and request account deletion or any of the above by emailing conchy.velasco@compare.coffee. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Retention & security

We keep your account and content until you ask us to delete it (or your account is closed), and billing records as required by law. We use reputable providers and reasonable technical measures to protect your data, though no service can be perfectly secure.

Children

Compare.Coffee isn’t directed at children under 16 and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy; we’ll change the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, give notice. Questions? Get in touch.
